Shockwave Therapy is an up-to-date and extremely successful treatment type in Physiotherapy rehabilitation.
Shockwave Therapy is a highly effective treatment for tendon related pain and chronic soft tissue injury
It is also known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)
ESWT is a non-invasive energy sound wave that is delivered via a hand held probe in clinic setting.
The shockwaves produce a major increase in circulation to the injured area and cause the breakdown of scar tissue which has develops as an injury becomes chronic. Scar tissue is not elastic and therefore produces reduction of normal movement and therefore restricts function.
By increasing blood flow and removing scar tissue, shockwave will stimulate cell regeneration and promote normal healing. Normal function can then be restored with a specific exercise programme
Shockwave is effective for treatment of:
· Plantar Fasciitis
· Lateral Epicondylitis ( tennis elbow)
· Patellar tendinitis
· Achilles tendonitis
· Shoulder tendinitis
· Hip Bursitis
Treatment is delivered in blocks of 4 or 6 treatments, an initial assessment with one of our experienced specialist physios followed by 3 or 5 further treatments which are 10-15 minutes long. You will be given advice and exercise to continue at home to promote the restoration of function.
The block of 4 treatments is £200 - payable at first appointment
The block of 6 treatments is £300 - payavle at first appointment
If the physio decides your condition will not benefit from Shockwave you will just be charged for the assessment (£48)
We can also offer our shockwave sessions at our typical physio treatment prices plus an additional cost. This makes the cost £95 if used within an assessment and £80 if used within a follow up session, making Shockwave Therapy an accessible option.
Shockwave should not be used if
· You are Pregnant
· Under 18
· If you are taking anti coagulants
· If there is infection within the area.
UK Government NICE (National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence) have validated Shockwave Therapy as a safe and efficient orthopaedic treatment.

Will I be in pain after treatment? You will normally experience a reduced level of pain or no pain immediately after treatment, but a mild and diffused pain may occur a few hours later. This dull pain should only last a day or two.
